Chassis Flex - a common TR issue.
Chassis flex is a bit of a nightmare. You can tell you have it by the door fit. The gap at the top of the door ends up being much wider than the bottom as the chassis demonstrates how much flex there is. You can jack the car up and put axel stands on the splines. If the gap changes you have confirmed flex.

The pictures below show the extent of the plating work on the current chassis. It is a patchwork quilt of plates and repairs. I spoke with Colin at CTM engineering. They will make you a brand new chassis and their work is legendary at a price. Around £2600 for the chassis and £300 for paint, plus VAT (price 2012). They need the suspension turrets off your old one
