SU HS6 Carburettors, Air Filters and Linkage
We have decided to change the Stromberg crabs for the SU HS6 option. Why? I understand and can work with SUs a lot easier than the Strombergs. We are keeping the Srombergs in a box should they ever be required in the future. Once we have sorted the linkage it will be here in detail.
Our carbs were refurbished by Burlin SU (Expect a 16 week wait - can't get better work though and well worth it). The SU air cleaners I fear will no longer be available by the time you read this, so if you see a set anywhere buy them as they will be like hens teeth. SU have gone over to K&N. The benefit of this older SU type is that they are washable - an annual job for a car in the UK.
HS6 Linkages are now available as a complete kit from the TR Shop London, scroll down for info. This kit will save you lots of time and effort.

TR SHOP in the UK Introduce HS6 Linkage Kits for the TR4A
The TR Shop of London UK are now producing an HS6 Conversion kit for the Triumph TR4A.
This saves loads of time and messing around trying to find the right linkage. There are many threads on the HS6 SU Carb over the Stromberg CD175 and solutions to linkages. All available on the TR Register Forum. |
This gives you an idea of what is in the kit. Should make your life a lot easier

S.U. DU-6 carburetors
These are not on our car - I wish - but well worth knowing about. The asking price for the rig below was $3500.
The Ultimate in Rare and Original Carburetors for your Coventry Climax FPF Vintage Racer, Formula 1 car, or Triumph:
S.U. DU-6 carburetors, as used on the 2.0 and 1.5 Litre Coventry Climax engines from the late 1950s into the early 1960s. This set of carburetors is mounted on an original set of manifolds for the FPF engine, with inlet port size 1.25" (+/- 31.75mm). Manifold casting numbers are "3176" (possibly 3178 - the last digit is difficult to read) and "102". The DU-6 carburetors were also famously used on the original Triumph works TR3S and TRS Le Mans racing cars that ran between 1959 and 1961. These are the cars that were powered by the famous "Sabrina" twin-cam racing engine.
Reputedly, only 50 sets of the DU-6 carburetors were ever produced, though I'm inclined to believe that there were a few more than that. For Triumph engine use, you would be able to use these carburetors, but would have to fabricate intake manifolds to fit your engine. Fortunately, flange dimensions (or the flanges themselves) for the DU6 carburetors can be taken directly from the FPF inlet that's part of this set. The cylinder-head end of the manifolds (and perhaps the tubes) could be taken from an ordinary Weber-carb set of intakes, or perhaps a TR4A inlet manifold. A world of possibilities. These Sabrina carbs would be a great thing to fit to your TR3 or TR4-engined car, and would definitely attract the attention of the judges as part of a featured display with a photo of the delightfully ample Sabrina herself.
Part numbers are AUC 8300 carburetor body, AUC 8301 on the bottom fuel bowl cover, and AUC 8321 on the inlet-side face plate. These parts are unique to the DU-6 carburetors, but most of the other parts (needles, pistons, piston tops, etc) are shared with the regular H6 SU carburetors as used on TR3A and earlier TR4 cars. Somewhere I read that ZB needles were used for the FPF - but am not 100% certain on that.
