Living with the TR4A 2019 / 2020
Our gearbox woes have been horrendous. The box was rebuilt by Mike Papworth but we have had all sorts of issues. It seems that the synchro has gone in 2nd gear. Now the oil is drained and it is full of metal so it looks like a complete rebuild again. Not a great way to start 2019 but maybe a good thing that it is being dealt with before the summer. The pictures below shoe the box out for the 4th time in the last 12 months....
May 2019 - The Gearbox goes back in
The gearbox went back in with no real issues. Pictures show Paul my friend checking the overdrive wiring. Overdrive Repair Services rebuilt the box and on the test drive it performed effortlessly. Putting the car back together always takes time but I can now do this in half a day on my own. All we have to do now is give the TR a deep clean in readiness for this years London to Brighton Classic in June 2019.
London to Brighton Classic 2019
Our favourite car event. Really laid back and relaxed. Here you can see the TR getting cleaned up by my local car wash. I gave it a deep clean following the wash and then we set off for London. Great day with plenty of sunshine to get the roof down.
Living with the Triumph 2020
The Covid - 19 Pandemic has meant we have not been out as much as we would like in our TR4A. Most Classic Car events have been cancelled including the Goodwood Revival. As I write the London to Brighton Classic Run is still taking place albeit in October. So attention on the TR4A has turned to smaller jobs that needed attention.
TR4A Fabricated Boot Catch2020 - The aftermarket boot catch on a TR4A - the type sold by Rimmers in the UK is useless at best. With a few days of operation it will break and detach itself. Having been through two of them in a short space of time I decided to construct something more substantial.

There shape of tier catch was faithfully copied with the striker body bering made in brass. The dowel that takes much more punishment has been made of stainless. The dowel is threaded and fixed with a Hex-screw from behind. Making overall a much stronger alternative and one I would hope will never need looking at again.

No Goodwood Revival in 2020 but Amberley Castle awaits |
Every year we go to the Goodwood Revival for a few days and stay at Amberley Castle. Goodwood was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic but we kept our hotel booking and went anyway. The surrounding areas of Goodwood have a lot to offer. Pictures show our TR4A outside Amberley.
