Triumph TR4A Body Paint Colours - Standard & Non-Standard
PLEASE VOTE IN THE POLL AFTER LOOKING AT THE COLOURS. SCROLL DOWN TO VOTE. - Tough call what colour to paint your TR4A. The original colours are obviously first choice but with modern paints the choice is endless. We are really stuck on this one especially as we are painting from scratch so can do what we like as we are not governed by an engine bay colour. Scroll down the page to see the 'Non-Standard' Triumph TR4A Body Paint Colours that others have used. There is also a gallery of all of these images at the very bottom of the page. Standard Triumph TR4A Colours
Signal Red
Probably the most popular TR4A colour as it looks great against chrome work.
Black |
Wedgewood Blue
The ultimate classic 1960's colour. Superb with a matched wedgewood blue interior. Valencia Blue |
White
The white Triumph used was called 'White' not Old English White or even Triumph White but it got known as Triumph White from what I can gather?? Also appears as 'New White' in some references.
|
Royal Blue
Late TR4As from 1966. See the Triumph paint chip card below. Valencia blue was used in the last few months of production.
The car above belongs to Jerry Van Vlack. A Royal Blue 66 TR4A with a red interior. Jerry says the scheme is very rare and has never seen another one but does know that more were produced. One is only 27 Commission numbers from his. Larger pictures at bottom of page. |
Racing Green
Appears many different shades of green in different lights. The overall appearance is one of a very dark green. Note the colour name of 'Racing Green' not 'British Racing Green'. Also called Conifer Green.

Opposite & Below: Royal Blue 66 TR4A belonging to Jerry Van Vlack. Here's a few notes from Jerry on the car....
I bought it in June of 1969 the day after I graduated university. It is a 66 and had about 12,000 miles on it. It now has in excess of 110,000 miles on it. I restored it in 2012 when I added the Hardtop. Engine is warmed up a bit with .100 milled from the head, 87mm liners/pistons, Kastner “D” Cam with a lightened flywheel. It’s lowered about an inch using GOODPARTS Springs. Front upper A Arms modified to allow some negative camber. Overdrive transmission and a Nissan positraction differential awaiting installation. Wheels are Panasports with 205-70-R15 tires. TR6 Front sway bar added. |
