I'm using CCK Historic to rebuild my TR4A Engine. The reason I have chosen this company is thier racing heritage, experience in engine rebuilding for TRs, and that fact that they look after a few racing Triumphs and lastly location. They are within 30 miles of my home so it makes it easy to have face to face discussions. The engine is now in the experienced and capable hands of Graham at CCK. He plans to pull it apart and have a good look at what it may need. There was water ingress taking place with lots of white smoke pouring out the exhaust and this is what triggered the complete rebuild of the whole car. Graham and Dan have said they will take plenty of pictures as they go along so they will feature here - scroll down to see them. They will also be on the CCK website. Below is the small museum CCK keeps going at their premises and you can take a look at the facilities on offer too. I managed to tip the engine over in transit to CCK and break a few exhaust manifold studs in the process so a bit of a nightmare but things are sent to try us. All part of the fun? Right!

The Triumph TR4A Engine rebuild - Transit
Below is the engine in transit, a few pics of the disaster when I tipped it over in transit and a look at some of the shiny parts. Note to self, use a smaller trailer and tie it down twice. The straps actually broke under braking! Picking up a TR engine on your own takes some doing and you have to not mind getting covered in oil!
The Triumph TR4A Engine rebuild - The process
This the first set of pictures from CCK to come back. You can see quite a bit has been going on and progress so far is good. So far, the sump and the timing cover have both been attended to and have both been painted in 2 pack black along with the water pump housing, front plate and a few other small parts. The engine block has been painted in the red paint that I provided so it matched other items that are the same colour on the TR4A.
The paint on the machine surfaces will all be removed prior to assembly.
CCK are fitting 89mm pistons and liners, a slightly hotter camshaft and doing a little work on the cylinder head. The increase in capacity should make the biggest difference with a flowed head and camshaft to give it that little bit extra. So far the block has been acid dipped and is awaiting the new liners. The crankshaft has been ground and is now getting balanced along with the flywheel, clutch and conrods. The cylinder head is also getting some work by CCK. The engine had been converted to run on unleaded at the Thanet Engine Centre prior to it being given to CCK.

List of worksCCK have done an amazing job and a lot went in to the engine rebuild. Below you can see everything that was done to the engine and how much it cost.

Now the engine is rebuilt the next stage is refitting on the chassis and mating to the gearbox. We'll be concentrating on sorting the ancillaries now and making sure they all fit and work as they were intended.

This is the first time Graham had seen his engine rebuild in the car. He set the carbs and ignition up correctly so now all we have to do is run the first 500 miles before coolant and oil change.
